“好好学习，天天向上”是一句几乎贯穿中国人成长经验的口号。它将学习、进步和成功描述为一条明确而稳定的道路：只要持续努力，个人就应当不断向上，并最终抵达一个更好的位置。

在这组作品中，我有意将这句带有教育和宣传意味的口号，放置在中国留学生真实而琐碎的日常生活之上。照片中的人物并没有处于一种持续“向上”的状态，而是在聚会、等待、疲惫、消费、孤独和短暂的快乐之间生活。他们一方面承受着关于学历、未来和成功的期待，另一方面又不断经历失序、停滞和不确定。

作品的讽刺并不是针对学习本身，而是指向一种过于简单的成功叙事。当“好好学习”被默认能够通向“天天向上”时，真实生活中的犹豫、欲望、挫败和偶然性便被遮蔽了。这个标题既像一句鼓励，也像一种命令；它保留着集体记忆中的熟悉感，却在照片所呈现的现实中逐渐显得荒诞。

通过图像与口号之间的错位，作品呈现了理想化的成长叙事与个体真实处境之间的距离。

“Study Hard and Make Progress Every Day” is a slogan deeply embedded in the experience of growing up in China. It presents education, progress, and success as a clear and stable path: as long as one continues to work hard, one is expected to keep moving upward and eventually reach a better position.

In this series, I deliberately place this educational and propagandistic slogan against the ordinary and fragmented realities of Chinese students living abroad. The people in these photographs are not continuously “making progress.” Their lives unfold through gatherings, waiting, exhaustion, consumption, solitude, and brief moments of pleasure. While carrying expectations related to education, the future, and success, they also experience disorder, stagnation, and uncertainty.

The irony of the work is not directed at learning itself, but at an overly simplified narrative of success. When studying hard is assumed to lead naturally to continuous progress, hesitation, desire, failure, and chance are excluded from the picture. The title functions both as encouragement and as command: it retains the familiarity of a shared collective memory, yet becomes increasingly absurd in relation to the realities depicted in the photographs.

Through this disjunction between image and slogan, the work examines the distance between an idealized narrative of personal development and the actual conditions of individual life.
